IELTSBeacon exists to make high-quality IELTS preparation genuinely accessible to everyone who needs it - students heading to university abroad, professionals chasing a work visa, and people working through the immigration process. Strong preparation shouldn't mean wading through scattered, outdated pages or being gatekept from the basics you need to reach your target band.
Why this site exists
Most IELTS resources online fall into one of two camps. They are either scattered, outdated and hard to navigate, or they bury the essentials in clutter and noise. I saw that gap up close - first as a test taker, then over years of coaching - and built IELTSBeacon to be the single, well-organised home for IELTS preparation that I wish I'd had when I started.
Who's behind IELTSBeacon
Owais Siddiqui
Founder, IELTSBeacon · IELTS Coach · Toronto, Canada
I've personally coached hundreds of people to their target IELTS band since 2018. IELTSBeacon is me making that help free and available to everyone.
I think you deserve to know who's behind the advice you're getting. By profession, I'm a digital marketing professional with over 15 years of experience in performance marketing, based in Toronto. My IELTS story began in 2018-2019, when I sat the exam myself during my own permanent-residence move to Canada. I took it more than once, because I wanted to understand exactly how it is scored and what examiners actually reward. What started as my own preparation grew into something bigger: since then, I've personally coached hundreds of people through their IELTS journey and helped them reach the bands they needed for university, work and permanent residency.
For years, that coaching happened one person at a time - evenings, weekends, marked-up essays, late-night "is this introduction good enough?" messages. IELTSBeacon is me taking everything those years taught me - the strategies, the model answers, the honest "this is what actually moves your score" advice - and putting it in one place for everyone. My background in building and scaling digital platforms is exactly what lets me turn years of one-to-one coaching into a resource that can reach people everywhere, not just the students I can fit into a week.
I built this to be the IELTS resource I wish I'd had: clear, practical, and grounded in what genuinely works - proven across hundreds of real students. As IELTSBeacon grows, I'm bringing in qualified IELTS teachers and recent high-scoring candidates to help review and expand the content, so the quality scales with the audience.
What makes the content different
I do three things here that most IELTS sites do not.
I show, not just tell
Anyone can say "use complex sentences in Writing Task 2." I show you a Band 5 sentence next to a Band 7 sentence and explain exactly what changed - real examples, not abstract descriptors.
I'm honest about trade-offs
Complex sentences can lift your score or tank it if your grammar slips. Speaking fast shows fluency, but rushing Part 3 loses marks. I tell you when a strategy works, when it backfires, and how to tell the difference.
I respect your time
Land on a page about Writing Task 1 and you won't get a 500-word history of IELTS first. You get the practical answer in the opening paragraph, then the detail.
What IELTSBeacon covers
The site currently covers every major area of the IELTS exam:
- ✓All four modules - Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking
- ✓Both test types - Academic and General Training
- ✓UKVI IELTS for UK visa applications
- ✓IELTS for Canadian immigration, including how scores map to CLB for Express Entry
- ✓Band score breakdowns with descriptor explanations
- ✓Cambridge IELTS practice tests with full answers and explanations
- ✓Model answers for Writing Task 1 and Task 2
- ✓Speaking cue card topics with example responses
- ✓Vocabulary, grammar and study plans
I'm continuously adding new content based on what test takers are searching for and asking me about. If there's a topic you'd like covered, suggest it through the contact page.
The tools behind the guides
IELTSBeacon is more than reading material. Alongside the guides and model answers, you get timed Listening and Reading practice tests with instant band scores, band-score calculators, and an AI-powered writing assessment that evaluates your Writing Task 1 and Task 2 responses against the IELTS marking criteria - for both Academic and General Training. Instead of guessing how your essay would score, you get structured, criteria-based feedback you can act on immediately.
The platform keeps growing, and I'm building the tools I always wished existed when I was preparing - and when I was coaching others.
What this site is not
IELTSBeacon is not affiliated with IDP, the British Council, Cambridge Assessment English, or any official IELTS body. I don't administer the exam or set the scoring criteria. This is an independent educational resource - and that independence is exactly what lets me give honest, practical advice rather than corporate-approved messaging.
I do not sell IELTS results, guarantee specific band scores, or offer any kind of exam-cheating service. If that's what you're after, this isn't the site for you. What I offer is honest preparation guidance that, applied consistently, helps people reach their target scores through their own effort - the same way my coaching students have.
Get in touch
I genuinely value hearing from the people who use IELTSBeacon. If you spot an error, want to suggest a topic, have a question, or just want to share your IELTS journey, I read everything.
Good luck with your preparation. I'm rooting for you.
